Fans of indie pop and electronic crossover owe many thanks to the Northwestern states. California, Washington and Oregon are renowned for their seemingly never-ending supply of wonderful synthetic pop and new wave artists. Starfucker, commonly abbreviated STRFKR, is a perfect example. Originating in Portland, Oregon, this electronica band has found their way into the hearts of music lovers almost everywhere. Just this past year, the band toured extensively in Japan as well as Europe and has recently returned home to start the festival circuit.
STRFKR is a melodic blend of male vocals and groovy synth. Their self-titled premiere album, Starf**ker, as well as their popular EP, Jupiter, display a pop focused and beat driven version of the band. With the release of their latest albums, Reptilians and Miracle Mile, STRFKR has transitioned to a mellowed out vibe. Their vocals are always subtle, yet profound and tend to leave the synth with the job of emotionally charging the music. When put together, a beautiful and modern sound is created.
It has been over a year since STRFKR released their latest album, which leaves many questions as to what is next. The bands social media outlets have affirmed that they are renting a house in California and moving their production equipment inside, but what does this mean for the future? Fans can only bide their time and hope this signals another album.
Mastering music is not STRFKR’s only accomplishment. They are equally talented performers and always leave a crowd thoroughly entertained. The band has developed a reputation for wearing outlandish outfits at their shows as well as sending out crowd surfing astronauts to interact. No STRFKR show is complete without giant blow up sex dolls and dancing animals either.
