Formerly known as Alex B at the start of his DJ career, Alexander Botwin has come a long way since becoming Paper Diamond in 2011. As owner of his own production and design company in Boulder, Colorado known as Elm and Oak and being a part of both Pretty Lights Music and Mad Decent record labels, Paper Diamond has been slicing through the electronic music scene with versatile innovation. As a current producer and DJ, Botwin has had years of musical experience, beginning his music career as the bassist for Pnuma Trio in 2004. Today, Paper Diamond graces electronic music with immense adaptability and freedom of expression.
Influenced by the instrumentation of artists like the Disco Biscuits and STS9, Botwin takes pride in his multifaceted sound. The name Paper Diamond portrays Botwin’s music as an art relatable to origami, where self-expression, variation, and endless possibilities can be found. Paper Diamond takes pride in his use of a range of elements and styles from trap to love-step and heavy dub. With Botwin’s production of light melodies, he incorporates a spectrum of bass that brings the listener through Paper Diamond’s musical consciousness as it fluctuates from style to style.
Paper Diamond is currently touring with major artists across the country, and is already set to perform at Ultra, Spring Awakening, and Buku music festival in 2014! Botwin’s most recent EP Paragon was released on April 23, 2013 and provides a perfect portrayal of Paper Diamond’s unique, musical individuality.
