Considered the king of bass music and the dubstep god of Los Angeles by Rolling Stone, British DJ and producer John Dadzie, also known as 12th Planet, has been a major pioneer of electronic dance music in America. Since the beginning, 12th Planet has worked to incorporate British electronic styles and sounds into the American scene. 12th Planet is the owner of SMOG Records, signing artists like Antiserum, emphasizing his heavy bass musical sound.
To start his career, John Dadzie self-taught his producing skills under the alias Infiltrata, creating drum and bass music. In 2006, during the American EDM explosion, Dadzie reinvented himself as 12th Planet, named after Zecharia Sitchin’s book, suggesting “we are not alone in the universe.” Dadzie utilizes this mentality of “another planet” in the production of his music, utilizing bass music and expanding beyond to create a unique sound that is “out of this world.” With an array of heavy, bumping bass, grime, and more, flawlessly combined together, 12th Planet takes his audience further away from earth than they have ever been before.
Alongside his SMOG Crew, Dadzie has become a major controller of the underground EDM movement. In the past, 12th Planet has played festivals including Coachella, Electric Daisy Carnival, and Ultra Music Festival, and will be premiering this year at Electric Forest. Since 2006, 12th Planet has released over 15 EPs and collaborated with artists such as Skrillex, Datsik, Doctor P, and Kill the Noise. His most recent EP, Transitions, was released on September 17, 2013 with fellow DJ Protohype. 12th Planet has also recently appeared on A Color Map of The Sun (Remixes), putting a 12th Planet-styled, outerspace spin on Pretty Lights Derek Vincent Smith’s track “Go Down Sunshine.”
