Top 5 Sets to Catch at BUKU

BUKU, the festival taking place in the heart of New Orleans at the famous Mardi Gras World, has delivered one of the best line ups of all of festival season. The roster is graced with the likes of big name producers, alternative bands, hip-hop artists and even a learn-to-twerk session, meeting the tastes of music fans of every genre. With so much going on during the two day festival, it’s hard to decide what exactly to see. If you’re lucky enough to make it to BUKU, there are some shows you just CANNOT miss.

1.) NAS

NAS has been on the scene for quite a while, with a whirlwind of a career. The rapper has been featured in collaborations with Puff Daddy, Chris Brown, Birdman, Kanye West and more. However, the artist’s true notoriety was spurred by the release of his first studio album “Illmatic” nearly 20 years ago. The rapper will be giving an ode to his claim to fame by celebrating its 20th birthday at BUKU. As if NAS’ energetic, engaging, and exciting performances weren’t enough reason to see the rapper, the anniversary celebration will be on another level of madness.

2.) Baauer Back to Back with RL Grime

Every avid EDM fan knows that Baauer and RL Grime are kings of trap. Since Baauer really came on the scene in 2013 with his break through hit “Harlem Shake,” he has been taking clubs and festivals by storm. Known for perfectly mashing up catchy, hip-hop, samples with dirty drops and heavy bass lines, Baauer is an artist that makes hit after hit. RL Grime is best known for his remix of “Satisfaction” and dirty festival sets with core rattling bass. Put the two dance-track masterminds mixing together? You’re going to get one hell of a party.

3.) Zedd

The big house German producer has quickly risen to become one of the most notable DJs in the world.  Having had a very successful 2013 festival run, and his country-wide “Moment Of Clarity Tour” Zedd jumps into 2014 complete with a Grammy for his single “Clarity.” His latest singles "Find You" and "Stay The Night", featuring Paramore singer Haley Williams, have skyrocketed to the top of dance charts across the globe. Zedd is set to headline some of the biggest festivals in the world--- and for good reason. His sets are always rowdy, throwing down beats with lots of bass and sultry vocals, produced completely by the mastermind himself.

4.) Beats Antique

To be taken on a trip through time, culture and space, be sure to catch Beats Antique’s absolutely mesmerizing performance. The trio made up of Zoe Jakes, Tommy Cappel and David Satori shows you music in a way you have never witnessed it before. The group specializes in creating a cultural experience for their audience, encompassing them with their funky style and Zoe Jakes’ hypnotizing belly dancing. The band’s sound can be compared with far eastern music mixed with an electronic hip hop tone. The trio’s sets are never just a show to watch, they are an act that completely captivates the audience. Elements including belly dancing, on stage performers, and live instruments truly make the music come alive.

5.) Smallpools

Yes, BUKU’s lineup is jam packed with industry heavy weights that will rock festival goers late into the night. However, before catching your favorite headliner, you have to be sure to make it to some of the less known acts with just as much talent. Smallpools, the indie-rock band that just broke onto the scene is undoubtably one of them. The band made its first waves with their self-titled EP. The EP features four irresistibly dancey tracks with catchy lyrics you can’t help but sing along to at the top of your lungs. Although a fairly new group, Smallpools’ sound can easily be compared to the likes of Grouplove and Young the Giant. Their energetic set will surely be a great way to get your day at BUKU started.
