Rising LA electro-soul artist AHEE just released his debut video for the track “Live In Joy” directed by AHEE’s musical collaborator Alexander Polinsky (aka ALEX). This fantastical video takes us on a journey to the stylized catacombs of a bleak and homogenized future where we meet a man in his un-realized self, locked in an unchanging pattern of mundane existence. Through a chance meeting with a beautiful and magical young woman, he is taken to an alternate dimension where creativity and self-expression reign supreme. His old identity is stripped away as he is reborn into AHEE, who ultimately rescues his peers from their humdrum existence into colorful freedom.
AHEE stands for “A Human Expressing Experience”, a project of Chris Adams who has an innovative take on making music. Not satisfied with the the limitations of synths and computer pre-set sounds, Adams has traveled the world with a field recorder for the last nine years recording unique sounds to create his free-spirited music. From an electric drill cutting wood, the plucking of cactus spines, to the sounds of internal organs, he weaves his eclectic recordings into electro-inspired sonic tapestries with the goal of shaking hips. The result is music that sounds both out of this world yet undeniably human.
This passion for incorporating found sounds is used in “Live in Joy” and several other songs from AHEE’S first LP, Ego Killer, released at the end of 2013. (Listen/Purchase Here)
AHEE has now teamed up with longtime musical counterpart ALEX, under the name AHEE & ALEX, to release their next full length album, Anything Is Beautiful, at the end of 2014 on Dome of Doom records. AHEE & ALEX work in beautiful harmony together with AHEE supplying the beats and found sounds while ALEX provides the vocals (who was also featured during Tiesto’s live tour last year.)
AHEE, is the moniker of Chris Adams, who was born and raised in Dallas, TX. Always fascinated by both music and psychology, Adams went on to graduate with a degree in Music Technology from CalIfornia Institute of The Arts. He soon co-founded Psychic Gnome Society, a projection mapping company, that provided Graphics for a Weezer Music Video, DJ QBert and Armin Van Buren to name a few. Adams also began recording music made with “found sounds” from field recordings of non-musical sounds.
In 2012 he released his first official "Found Sound" album as AHEE, a self-titled tape. Later in the year, Dome Of Doom Records pressed his second official release called "Xhals", which was described as the "best experimental album of 2012", "Like Aphex Twin but even better" around the music blogosphere. After attending festivals in Southern California, Adams fell in love with electronic music and began using his experimental techniques to create dance music, which was released on the Ego Killer LP in 2012. After honing his skills of getting folks moving to dance music made with found sounds, like hot tub pumps and dog’s chewing on bones, AHEE expects to release his 4th album, Anything Is Beautiful at the end of 2014.
ABOUT THE DIRECTOR - ALEXANDER POLINSKY
Born in SF and raised in LA around the movie business, entertainment is second nature to Alexander Polinsky. He has been an actor his whole life (most noticeably starred on Charles in Charge for ten years), does voiceover work for Cartoon Network, and performs with electro-circus troupe Lucent Dossier Experience.
AHEE & ALEX met through mutual friends at CalArts in 2009, but did not start working together until 2010 when they created a psych rock band together, The Rogue Mechanica, that used the ‘found sound’ concept to record.
Moving from long time musical collaborators where Alex provides the vocals and assists in arranging their songs, the “Live In Joy” video is Alex’s directorial debut. The two will release a full length album Anything Is Beautiful at the end of 2014.
