This year on May 16-18 comes a music festival like none other. The festival is jam packed with music of all genres, from big name headliners to talented up and comers. The festival welcomes big crowds, good vibes, crazy music, awesome light shows and music fans from around the country. But what sets Hangout Festival apart from your typical music festival is the fact that the three days of madness will take place on the beautiful beaches of Gulf Shores, Alabama. Festival goers have the opportunity to experience sun, sand, and music in their own little paradise.
The Hangout Festival is a fairly new event, struggling to making its debut in 2010 due to the massive oil spill in the Gulf of Mexico which nearly caused the event to be cancelled. However, organizers pushed and made the festival happen, we’re glad they did. For its maiden year 15,000 attended, and during the past three years the festival attendance count has risen to 35,000 and has annually sold out.
Considering the festivals impressive growth in just a small number of years, there will be a sixth stage added this year sponsored by Red Bull. Along with the Red Bull stage, there will also be the BMI stage that promotes new and upcoming talent. With a large variety of genres and performance locations, the Hangout Festival attracts all age groups including children, who under age ten get in for free. In past years BP has sponsored a smaller stage that is geared more towards children who attend the festival.
The Hangout has no designated camping. However, the website does give several recommendations for hotels and condos that are close to the event to make the most out of your time spent in Gulf Shores. However, many attendees opt not to stay in a hotel and choose to stay at nearby campgrounds, such as Gulf State Park, which transforms into a temporary Hangout community throughout the duration of the event. Though these hotels and campgrounds are fairly close to the event, many attendees feel that they are too far to walk. Biking riding is one option but the Hangout organizers also offer $5 shuttles that will take one to and from the event site to various campgrounds and hotels in the area.
Though the early bird tier has sold out, general admission tickets are still available for $229, which includes 3-day festival access with re-entry, and VIP tickets are $999, including VIP viewing areas at 2 of the main stages, private air-conditioned bathrooms, main stage VIP swimming pools, VIP shaded areas, and complimentary snacks, beer, wine, and other beverages. For everyone who can’t wait to get the kick off the weekend, The Hangout Festival is also offering a night “Pre-Party” featuring Girl Talk, tickets can be purchased separately.
