The Emancipator Ensemble Takes Over Colorado
Doug Appling, better known by his stage name Emancipator, returns to the lovely state of Colorado this weekend including stops in Boulder, Denver, and Aspen. Headlining the Boulder Theatre this Friday, February 5th, Emancipator will be joined by Chrome Sparks and Cloudchord, making for a lineup jam packed with unique talent from top to bottom. With the aid of a live ensemble, Emancipator brings one of the most engaging performances in the electronic/jam scene. Combining upbeat melodies with deep melodic strings and wild breaks, Doug is accompanied by Ilya Goldberg, a violinist who graduated CU Boulder with a degree in Performing Arts. Emancipator draws his influences from a wide variety of artists, managing to create a sound that is unique to any other form of electronic music around at this time.

Emancipator’s first album “Soon it Will Be Cold Enough” was released before Doug even turned 21. This is truly a strong testament of what an intelligent producer this man is, exemplified perfectly by songs such as “First Snow”. His thought-provoking tracks mesh flawlessly as Emancipator is one of the few modern electronic artists to have success marketing his music through the use of vinyls. This tour will most definitely be showcasing Doug’s newest album “Seven Seas” which was released 4 months ago on Loci Records. This album showcases the vast amount of creativity Emancipator encompasses. Performed with a live ensemble, I can assure you each of these tracks will take on a whole new element in and of themselves. I would also encourage you to check out the “Dusk To Dawn Remixes” album, highlighted by a Odesza's magnificent remix of “Eve II”. All and all, Emancipator’s discography is one that gets better and better the more you listen. Each album evokes a plethora of emotions and Doug often uses the same base melodies and samples on different songs in different albums to create new, groovy, feels that are recognizable yet unique.
