Diplo to Host New TV Show
Diplo is to host a new series on VH1 called ‘SoundClash’, produced by Questlove, member of hip hop group, The Roots. The show will feature three musical acts that will be performing hits as well as new mixes and covers in front of a live audience. In a recent press release president of VH1 and Palladia, a satellite and cable network, Tom Calderone, says,
“‘SoundClash’ will showcase established acts at their peak, spotlight breaking artists on the rise, and introduce what’s breaking on the music scene at that moment. But it will be the collaborative spirit between the performers on the show that will have music fans buzzing throughout the telecast and for days afterwards.”
The first episode will air July 23 and will feature Fall Out Boy, Lil Wayne, and up-and-coming group London Grammer. The next installment will bring Ed Sheeran, Sia, and alternative band, Grouplove, to the stage.
Diplo has always been on the cutting edge side of the EDM community, not only djing traditional electronic music as well as hip-hop but also hosting a popular weekly radio show, in the works of producing a movie, and now a TV show. Diplo was ranked in DJ Mag’s Top 100 DJs list this year and is gaining worldwide popularity rapidly with big hits like “Express Yourself” which brought the popularity of twerking to a whole new level.
This is not the first we have heard of an EDM based TV show. Simon Cowell recently announced that he would be launching new reality show titled ‘The Ultimate DJ’ in which he will search for the best dj in an American Idol type fashion. Are reality TV shows part of a new era for electronic music? Stay tuned for our opinions on these shows once they are aired.
