Fans of Tyler, the Creator have had plenty of excitement delivered to them in the past couple months. Ever since the 2013 release of his album, Wolf, fans have been anxiously awaiting new material. Finally, on April 13th wishes were granted. Tyler’s third studio album ‘Cherry Bomb’ was finally released. It is an album that should be listened to all the way through in one sitting, to get the full effect. From the first track you sense that the songs on Cherry Bomb are much different from the songs found on his previous albums. He incorporates a slew of instruments into his new material, like horns and violins to name a few. His eclectic sound is highlighted in this album, with an unbelievable variation of sounds. Throughout the album, there are traces of hip hop, jazz, and rock, and lots of distortion. The artists that Tyler collaborated on Cherry Bomb are also exceptional. Artist like Kanye West and Lil Wayne (on “SMUCKERS”), Kali Uchis, (on :FIND YOUR WINGS” and “2SEATER”), and Pharrell, (on “KEEP DA O’S”). Tyler’s significant experimentation is undoubtedly paying off in this album, and a new sound is noticeably, and rapidly evolving. He is arguably one of the most creative and unique rappers making music today. If his studio work isn’t enough, there are his live performances that will leave you completely exhausted and wanting more.
I have experienced a Tyler performance that continues to reside in my top 5 ‘ever’ list. I was lucky enough to see him perform at the legendary Red Rocks Amphitheater in 2013, and it was everything that I had hoped for and more. Not only did he perform tracks from his recent release (at the time), Wolf, but he also incorporated some of his older work into the performance as well. He clutched and held a connection with the audience, that was returned with delirious vocal praise. His high energy and rowdy show definitely set the mood for the night. It was an incredible live show that was topped off with a surprise performance by Earl Sweatshirt. Tyler’s followers have been blessed with the knowledge Tyler has announced not one, but two upcoming performances in Colorado! He will be throwing down at The Aggie Theater in Fort Collins, and The Fox Theater in Boulder this June. Don’t miss this chance to see the musical genius that is Tyler, the Creator!
