Last year, one of the most renowned emo bands, American Football, finally reunited after a 15 year hiatus. This year, they have announced that they will be coming to Colorado in April!
Originating in Illinois, the band emerged with their authentic and original sound. Even after the release of their first full-length album American Football in 1998, American Football’s fan base was still rather small. The band explained that back then, their biggest show was played in front of 40 people. Within a year of the release of their album the band had a mutual break up. Ironically, years later their music blew up and American Football became one of the most influential emo bands of our time. Artists worldwide have contributed significant inspiration to American Football and their style can been found in emo bands to this day.
Last May, American Football’s label, Polyvinyl, announced the release of a deluxe album including the 9 tracks from the band’s first album and 10 of their unreleased demos and live songs. There were fans all over the world (myself included) that never got a chance to appreciate the band while they were still active, so this was outstanding news. Even more exciting: American Football has announced a number of shows this year in the US, the UK, and Australia with many dates already sold out. American Football will be blessing The Gothic Theatre in Denver with their divine presence on April 25th, so get your tickets fast!
