The time where every festival goer and avid music lover itches to return to festival season; summer air, late nights, minimal clothing, camping, the list goes on. However, every year when the colder months begin, most of our festival seasons abruptly come to an end. This doesn’t have to be the case, here are 10 festivals during winter months that are worth checking out to get your festival fix!
Envision is without a doubt so much more than a music festival. Taking place deep in the jungle of Costa Rica, bringing in people from all over Central America and the U.S., the festival is one of a kind. Besides boasting amazing lineups with names like Tipper, The Polish Ambassador, Random Rab just to name a few, the festival emphasizes permaculture, preserving the environment, yoga, art and so much more. Decadence is one of the biggest New Years Eve music events in the country, drawing in some of the biggest names in EDM. The New Years bash pops off annually in Denver, Colorado, attracting attendees from all over the U.S. This year, the festival has announced massive names to grace the lineup including GRiZmatik, Bassnectar, Armin Van Buuren, Zedd, Disclosure and more. Although the event itself is hosted indoors, the festival is only a little over a hour away from world class ski resorts, allowing attendees to ski by day and rave by night. SnowGlobe may be the most scenic festival on the list, nestled between the mountains in South Lake Tahoe, CA, the festival grounds are absolutely breathtaking. Besides the location, the three day festival has boasted stellar lineups annually, this year including Skrillex, Porter Robinson, Disclosure and more. Ultra, one of the biggest and most renowned festivals in the world takes place annually in the heart of Miami, FL. Occurring at the end of March and bringing in roughly 330,000 fans, over 200 of the biggest electronic music producers on earth and 81 million dollars to the local economy, in one weekend alone, Ultra is a big deal. Another thing Ultra is known for is world class production, blowing the minds of attendees. Many argue the best part about Ultra isn’t Ultra at all, but taking part in Miami Music Week bringing in names like Deadmau5, Armin van Buuren, Above & Beyond, Hardwell, and more. A once of a kind event, BUKU is a early season festival everyone needs to hit. The festival brings in some of the biggest names in hip hop, electro-pop and EDM including Ellie Goulding, GRiZ, Chance The Rapper, NAS, Zeds Dead and more during past years. The festival takes place at Mardi Gras World, a fantastic venue right along the water, providing a beautiful setting for the festivities. Gem & Jam
Taking place just a few minutes outside of the heart of Tucson, AZ Gem & Jam is the most intimate festival on the list. With just a few thousand attendees, the festival gives off vibes unlike anything else, allowing attendees to feel like they are part of the music and the performances. The festival is run by Alex and Allyson Grey, psychedelic advocates, bringing a very unique element to the festivities including informational talks. The festival also emphasizes art, and with live painters throughout the grounds the ambiance swells with creativity. EDC Puerto Rico
If your festival season itch has you missing the warm weather of festival season make your way to Insomniac’s installment of EDC in Puerto Rico! Unlike Decadence, Snowball is a festival held during the winter months in Colorado where you can enjoy the gorgeous Colorado scenery. Previously set in the picturesque Winter Park, CO, for 2014 Snowball moved its home to Denver. Despite much disappointment over the change in venues, the festival proves to be a winter season must hit. Bringing in names like Brother Ali, Earl Sweatshirt, STS9, Pretty Lights, GRIZ, and more in the past, the lineup has something for everyone. The festival has also hosted some pretty incredible events, including last year’s Pretty Lights Music Party, featuring names from the Pretty Lights Music Label including Derek Vincent Smith himself.
