Ladies and gentlemen, your favorite urban festival is coming back in the spring. That’s right, BUKU Music + Arts Project! BUKU was crafted by Winter Circle Productions and made its debut premiere in 2012. Located in the heart of New Orleans, Louisiana, this two-day festival is returning to Mardi Gras World for their fifth annual run on March 11-12, 2016.
The 2016 lineup dropped on December 1st and let me tell you, it is unbelievably mind-boggling as always. Although BUKU began as a heavily electronic dance music concentrated festival, the line-up has become diverse over the years and now caters to many other genres. This festival also offers various subgenres in electronic dance music. Want trance? Go see Above & Beyond. Want trap? Go see What So Not, Baauer, Yellow Claw, or NGHTMRE. Want hip-hop? Go see Kid Cudi, Future, Fetty Wap, A$AP Ferg, or Earl Sweatshirt. Want synthpop? Go see Miike Snow, CHVRCHES, Crystal Castles, or BØRNS. Want a little bit of everything? Go see Pretty Lights, NERO (live), or GRiZ. Furthermore, BUKU continually features a wholesome amount of back-to-back sets including Cashmere Cat b2b Trippy Turtle, MIJA b2b Anna Lunoe, Mystikal b2b Juvenile b2b Fly Boi Keno, and more.
Did I mention the downright phenomenal VIP amenities? If you’re 21 and over, you’ll definitely want to take advantage of this. You will have access to S.S. BLU-KU, a three-level riverboat docked along the Mississippi River. The S.S. BLU-KU will have an open bar, local snacks and drinks, view of main stage and festival grounds from the boat’s top deck, and the best part of it all – exclusive VIP only sets on the boat stage. All of you VIP pass holders will get The Funk Hunters, Louis The Child, and more all to yourselves.
What’s truly dazing about BUKU is that it has evolved into a unique subculture. It’s safe to say that this illustrious festival can certainly share something with each individual. Whether it’s music, art, culture, or chow, Winter Park Productions expressed that “BUKU blends the rich traditions of New Orleans with the progressive attitude of our attendees, and has become a reflection of the creative, youthful culture that is fueling the new New Orleans.”
