The Evolution of Firefly

It’s no secret that Firefly music festival is a must hit destination on this year’s extensive summer festival list. Held on the grounds of Dover International Speedway, many are marking down the dates of June 18-21 in their calendars. Headliners Paul McCartney, Kings of Leon, and The Killers lay the foundation for this profound lineup, while big name veterans such as Morrissey, Snoop Dogg, Foster the People, Modest Mouse, Spoon, and Empire of the Sun draw numerous fans to this Delaware campground. One aspect of Firefly that makes it a top tier summer destination is the diversity of it’s lineup; which includes classic rock legends, established electronic artists, up and coming rap and hip hop performers, and influential indie bands of this generation. To go along with the numerous veteran performers, Firefly stays up to date by including a number of rising artists on their lineup, such as Hozier, Odesza, Kygo, Tycho, Gary Clark Jr., Logic, and RJD2 to name a few.

The only thing more surprising than Firefly’s insane 2015 lineup is the fact that four years ago hardly any festival goer knew of this hidden gem. In 2012, Firefly consisted of just 48 artists, followed by 71 in 2013. The 2015 lineup, which is by far the festival’s deepest lineup yet has over 100 names, putting it in the conversation as a top east coast festival, alongside Bonnaroo, Wakarusa, Governor’s Ball, Gathering of the Vibes, and Counterpoint. Firefly festival has something for everyone and is sure to be one of this summer’s most highlighted festivals.
