ARISE Music Festival is made of a different cloth than EDC or Bonnaroo. It even has it in its name; ARISE is about raising yourself to your highest potential. Many festivals have integrated workshops into their experience, but ARISE has compiled a list of teachers and topics that are dedicated to bettering one’s self, either by providing information on how to stay in good health, discovering facets of your inner subconscious self, or learning a new skill. This year, ARISE is offering workshops from leaders of their fields from all over the country, hailing from spiritual mecca Sedona, Arizona, to the shores of California and over to Florida - although a majority of teachers are from less than 50 miles away in the home state of Colorado. With so many inspiring people and meaningful subjects, it is very difficult to rank which workshops one should make it a point to attend. So, this list isn’t that: it’s a list of which workshops that are going to be a one-of-a-kind experience you don’t want to miss (in no particular order).
Keep Yourself in The Groove: Informational Workshops on All Aspects of Health and Wellness at Summer Music Festivals
We’ve all been there – the zombie walking into the closest fast food restaurant after the last day of the festival on the long drive back home. We’ve also all seen (or been) the person that just went a little too hard. Staying healthy at a festival is the key to having the best experience possible. Keep Yourself in the Groove is hosting a workshop to help you navigate any festival while remaining health-conscious. Keep Yourself in The Groove is a non-profit organization with a background in educational services, full medical care, safety planning, and more. This workshop covers a variety of topics including how to prepare/adjust to the environment (heat, cold, dehydration, sun exposure), importance of basic human needs (what kind of food to eat, how much water to drink, the necessity of sleep, and the psychology piece of it all), the dangers of substance mixing, and overall wellness. Most importantly, this workshop runs on open communication without any judgment whatsoever. This blend of Eastern, Western, Traditional and Non-Traditional Medicinal philosophies create a workshop that is inclusive, well-rounded, and provides students with all the tools necessary to make educated decisions for their festival wellbeing.
Qi Gong for Organ Strengthening and Cleansing
This workshop makes our list of “not to miss” because its subject is one that you might not find very often in your day-to-day, or even at another festival this summer. “Qi (Chi) Gong for Organ Strengthening and Cleansing” is based on an ancient Chinese practice for improving chi, or life force energy, through postures, exercises, breathing techniques, and meditations. The goal of this workshop is to flush toxins out of our organs by opening energy blockages to strengthen our internal workings. Sher Eng will teach you how to cleanse your entire body with this energy work, which will in turn strengthen your nervous system, balance your right and left brain, and center your Self. Although it’s an 8:00am workshop on Saturday morning, your liver, lungs, and their close relatives will be happy you attended.
Finding Voice, Receiving Song
Performer and songwriter Ayla Nereo, a nationally touring musician and the other half to duo Wildlight with The Polish Ambassador, will be holding her very own workshop at ARISE. Her workshop, called “Finding Voice, Receiving Song”, is the perfect place for a singer of any level to come experiment with their voice. And don’t worry – this isn’t a talent show where the star acapella steals the spotlight, but rather a group singing lesson on how to communicate the language of song, create music, find the perfect words to fit by crafting lyrics, shaping melodies, and exploring the strength of your voice. This workshop is bound to be a very popular one, with the teacher being the amazing Ayla Nereo herself, so get there early to ensure your voice is heard.
Mastery of Consciousness Teachings
It’s not every day you get to hear what a Siddhar master from South India has to say about awakening your kundalini, let alone help you do it yourself. “Mastery of Consciousness Teachings” is a workshop given by Nandhiji Tapasyogi to help attendees use breath work, yogic techniques, and “potent” Siddhar mantras to “awaken the inner lamp of wisdom and self-mastery”. His vision is a compassionate world, full of conscious humans coming together through yogic wisdom. Having experienced “multiple death regression”, where he witnessed his death in each of his past lives, Nandhiji is, to say the least, enlightened. This workshop is guaranteed to be not only unique, but third eye-opening and full of Universal Love.
Herbs of Consciousness
Since the dawn of humans, we have sought out ways to transmute to other dimensions or perceptions through ritual or happenstance. Brigitte Mars, a Boulder, Colorado local, is providing a workshop to describe the herbs that grow wild on our planet and have been used for centuries as psychedelic catalysts. She will inform about the physiological effects, where/why/when to do them, and how to get the most out of the experience while remaining in a positive mindset even through difficulties. This workshop made our list because there aren’t many places in the world where there is an open willingness to talk about the benefits of psychedelics, and especially from the mouth of an established herbalist and nutritionist with over 40 years of experience. Erase the stigma and open your mind – there’s no telling where it may lead you.
