I had never been to Oregon before What The Festival. We drove in from Denver, CO so I got to experience a scenic drive across the state before arriving at this magical place. No matter where you're standing, the views are amazing! You can see Mt. Hood off in the distance from two of the main stages. The grounds were well planned out and kept tidy all weekend. It's not a huge place either; so you never had to walk far to go see music. The stages were setup in a way that made them easy to access. They were all equipped with Funktion One sound systems. Funktion One technology allows listeners in the front row to enjoy the music at full volume, while also being able to have a conversation with those around them. Its surround sound similar to what you might hear in a theater. Even if you're way in the back, you can still feel the beat! It's by far my favorite setup!
The pool party is by far my favorite aspect of this festival! Each day, from noon to around seven, there's a huge twin pool setup. Every time you get near the water, expect to be struck by some sort of inflatable animal! You'll engage in squirt gun battles, football, poolside beer pong, dance offs in the sand, and other shenanigans.
Everyone that I met at WTF had such a great attitude! Its not a large event by any means, only 6000 people or so. There were lots of characters there for sure. I was very pleased with the number of people at this event. Not too many, not too few; an appropriate amount for the venue.
The music was so on point at What The Fest! With a wide variety of artists, there was something for everyone. There wasn't a single artist that played all weekend that I didn't enjoy. On Thursday night, Minnesota played some dirty beats that had everyone going! With big name headliners such as Griz, Odesza, Big Gigantic, and Keys N Krates, how could you go wrong? The Friday night funk-down with Griz was incredible. He took us all on a journey through sound! Saturday night we all got a taste of The Funk Hunters with Chali 2na. They brought the noise with live rap and straight soul-funk. Of course you can't forget about the Thomas Jack tropical pool party on Sunday; that was truly epic!
For me, the choice is pretty clear. I'll definitely be attending What The Festival next year! I had such a great experience. Every aspect of WTF was stellar: the venue, the music, the people, all good vibes. Can't wait for next year; a wild ass pool party awaits!
