It’s nearing 30 days away people – Pretty Lights’ very first festival. This August 28th and 29th, Derek Vincent Smith is bringing his A-Game to one of Colorado’s most idyllic scenes, Telluride. Standing guard to the small town, the rugged San Juan Mountains create the perfect setting for two nights of vibey, analog synth goodness. Gaining its name to fame from the intensity of the slopes, “Telluride” is deemed from the phrase, “To hell you ride”, so as you can imagine, these mountains are the epitome of the awe-inspiring magic that Colorado holds. Add this with the lights and lasers Pretty Lights is famous for and you have a scene of a sublime blend of electronic music with Mother Nature in her most epic form. Vibrant lights will play off the mountains as Smith’s unique style of electro soul, hip-hop beats and all-encompassing, passion-filled conglomeration of sound reverberates down the canyon walls. With the help of his new Analog Future Band, including members Adam Dietch and Borahm Lee of Break Science, Eric Krasno (Soulive, Lettuce), Brian Coogan, Eric Bloom (Lettuce), Scott Flynn (Elephant Wrecking Ball, formerly with John Brown’s Body), and Chris Karns (USA & World Champion turntablist), PL Telluride is going to be enchanting to say the least.

Pretty Lights fans are anxiously waiting to see the journey Pretty Lights’ Analog Future Band takes them on for this festival’s debut. Derek is known for his intricate storytelling, taking the audience into the deepest parts of his soul and leaving it wide open for personal interpretation. It’s safe to say that there will be no repeats the entire weekend, and we should expect to hear some chill vibed sets, a couple times where it gets rowdy (ahem, “Hot Like Sauce” or “I Know the Truth”…), and oodles of soul throughout. Many are looking forward to how he will organize his decade of music-making into one amazing weekend. And the party won’t stop when the sound systems shut down – after parties will be hosted at venues around downtown Telluride with artists playing early into the dawn. These artists include favorites such as Break Science, Michal Menert, Manic Focus, Marvel Years, Mikey Thunder, Late Night Radio, Sunsquabi, Marcelo Moxy, Exmag, Krooked Drivers, Eliot Lipp, and more. Although not your typical festival, Pretty Lights’ Telluride is bound to be a memory never to be forgotten.

There isn't anything that comes to mind to better transition out of festival season than camping underneath the Colorado night sky, with stars glistening off mountainsides among a compound of like-minded, Pretty Lights-loving family. If you ever needed an excuse to get out to Colorado, this is it. I’ll see all your shining faces soaking up those pretty lights come the end of August!
